Who can be an Altar Server?
Kids, Teens, Adults, Couples, Families, Retirees, Seniors … YOU!
Altar serving is considered special because it allows individuals to actively participate in the most sacred parts of a Catholic Mass, assisting the priest at the altar, which is a unique opportunity to deepen one's connection to the liturgy, demonstrate reverence for the Eucharist, and develop important virtues like responsibility, humility, and attentiveness while contributing meaningfully to the worship service; essentially, it's a way to serve God directly within the community of faith.
Our parish is proud to have diverse altar server teams including: kids 7 years and older, teens, families that serve together, friends that serve together, senior citizens and adults. Everyone is welcome to serve and we hope that you will consider joining this special ministry.
Key aspects of altar serving that make it special:
- Direct involvement in the liturgy:
- Altar servers are physically present at the altar, participating in key moments of the Mass like the presentation of the gifts, the Eucharistic Prayer, and Communion distribution.
- Deepening faith understanding:
- By actively participating in the rituals, servers gain a deeper understanding of the meaning behind the Mass and the significance of each action.
- Developing personal qualities:
- Altar serving cultivates qualities like responsibility, punctuality, focus, and reverence as servers must perform their duties with precision and respect.
- Sense of service and community:
- Serving at the altar is considered a way to contribute to the community by supporting the priest and enhancing the worship experience for the congregation.
- Opportunity for personal reflection:
- The solemn nature of the Mass, combined with the close proximity to the altar, can provide a space for personal prayer and reflection.
Please consider becoming an Altar Server.
